You will be asked for the name of the company you’re phoning from.

You may be asked another question to be sure that it’s ok to give you contact information or to make sure that you are not going to pester if details are given

So sometimes it’s the Marketing Director I should speak to, or it may be your head of X.  Who’s the best person there?

You will be asked for your name.  Your name is only important when they are planning to transfer you to the person you’re looking to speak to.  Save your introduction for this point because now it will be heard.

I’m YOUR NAME.  And then you ask again – who’s the right person to talk to there?

Often you will be put through to the person you need to speak to – if there’s time ask for the name and position – but don’t risk delaying getting to talk to the person you need.
